Imperial Community School is a small school with a big heart.
· We stress inclusion at Imperial and have facilitated this integration with all of our programs.
· We are one of 4 schools in the city with a Aboriginal Resource Classroom and corresponding teacher.
· At this time we have school wide Guided Reading Groups, we also have same-grade groupings for Math.
· We have integration of all of our programs.
· We have flexible groupings where students change groups as they grow academically and develop strengths in learning.
· We have Reading Effects teacher for part of the year to support early readers requiring added support.
· Our teachers have worked to develop learning environments based on meta-cognition. "Metacognitive skills include taking conscious control of learning, planning and selecting strategies, monitoring the progress of learning, correcting errors, analyzing the effectiveness of learning strategies, and changing learning behaviors and strategies when necessary." (Ridley, D.S., Schutz, P.A., Glanz, R.S. & Weinstein, C.E., 1992)
· We are incorporating Aboriginal learning with our Cultural classroom and teacher on a regular basis.
· We incorporate the Circle of Courage (Belonging, Mastery, Generosity, and Independence) in our daily approach.
The Imperial Staff is enthusiastic about moving forward and have a strong interest in innovation.
The school strives to provide holistic, quality learning and inquiry based experiences to better support cognitive, emotional and Literacy and Numeracy development. The aim is to give younger children a stronger start in an early learning environment that supports both children and families.
“Your commitment to education and always doing your best plays an important role at our school and helps us achieve success”
